Went for a fabulous meal last night at Via Vaneto Trattoria. Ken was briefly horrified that Geoff and I both ordered liver but it is a specialty of the Venice region and was highly recommended by our waiter. Outstanding, as was the wine and company. Most interesting were the people at near-by tables. As a family "discussion" grew more heated, an elderly gent across the way temporarily lost consciousness, head nearly in his plate, unresponsive. His wife kept on eating, ocassionally giving him a little shake to see if he would revive. She seemed to be lacking a sense of urgency--perhaps she's seen this before? Meanwhile, his daughter signaled the waiter to call for help. Soon enough the firefighters arrived and about 6 of them crowded in just about the time that the old boy sat up and declared that he was just fine! Sensibly, he was taken to be checked anyway. His wife apologized to us for the disruption to our meal!
