Sedona rocks!

Some of the fabulous Mobile Art at a Sedona Gallery.
What a great day! Left Scottsdale at 8:30, stopped for coffee and pie at the famous Rock Springs cafe. A bit of an interesting period piece, trading post in the early frontier days, that sort of thing. A few characters in the place (genuine cowboy at the bar)but mostly tourists such as ourselves on the way to Sedona. Geoff and I have been before but that did not stop me from exclaiming loudly at the incredible vistas at every turn. Stopped at Montezuma's castle to see ancient cliff dwellings and beautiful Sycamore trees lining the river valley. Stopped at an interpretive centre in order to learn about Arizona's previous incarnation as a sea bed. Really amazing and served to explain both the stratum and red coloration of the rock formations in the area. (photos attached). Wandered briefly in town, stopped for bottomless salsa and chips and what else, margaritas. Remembered at this point that in fact it was our anniversary! Could hardly be better. Sat in the bright sunshine on a little deck, relaxing, talking, enjoying! Made our way down to Tlaquepaque market, wonderful galleries indoors and out. Finally headed back to Phoenix with Ken at the wheel. Now Geoff is preparing what looks to be a great meal--prawns, scallops and other wonderful things on the menu. We have only a few more days in this home; need to vacate on Friday to a hotel in nearby Old Scottsdale. Have to make the most of the hot tub--later tonight. Looking forward to some more great meals at Oregano's and possibly F N B (say it quickly) and a few more relaxing days and evenings.
Photos don't do these formations justice.

The colours are brilliant - especially on a day like today.

These were once under water.

Ken - even before his first Margarita!

The Sycamores of Beaver Creek.

  1. Wonderful Sedona! Such "warm" memories from rainy Vancouver! Was it only a week ago?
