Watta Butt!!
What a great day!  After we moved out of M properties in Scottsdale, returned Ken's rental car, and signed in at The Hyatt, we took a road trip along The Apache Trail.  What fun!  Stopped at a museum at the foot of Superstition Mountain but wouldn't pay the $5 to see it.  Wandered their little fun graveyard (see photo) then drove up the meandering road as far as Tortilla Flat.  Beautiful desert country!  As you can see by the pictures, it really is astounding.  Came in to Tortilla Flat, a little town that has been owned by a variety of entrepreneurs over time.  Had a gawd-awful lunch in the restaurant but were fascinated by the $1 bill covered walls.   The waiter and the local museum had different views on the story behind it but it more or less goes like this:  a customer left the waitress a tip with a blue $5 bill, essentially worthless to her, so up it went on the wall.  Much to the chagrin of the owner, a businessman then asked if he could put his card on the wall.  "It will cost you a buck," was his response.  The man gladly tacked his buck and card to the wall and the practice  began.  Two fires and one theft have depleted the bills but since the last incarnation of this cafe, more than $100,000 have been posted.  After their last fire in the '80's, people from all over the world sent in their bucks for the wall.  Needless to say, ours is up there now too.  Check out the size of that rattler skin!  Geoff wanted a shot of his ass on a saddle so when opportunity knocks...
got back to Scottsdale in time for a movie--this was when we saw "Carnage"--then headed back to Oregano's for another fab pizza.
A Real Tombstone!!

Check out the snake skin - gross!

  1. Happy Belated Anniversary!

I love the photos Terry. It looks and sounds like you both continue to have an amazing time. I always wondered what the appeal of travel to a desert had for so many people. I think I'm starting to get it now. The landscapes look so beautiful and the stories are definitely interesting.

    The rattlesnake skin though-- EWWWW!!!
